Minty Machine Access terms

Version 2026-09-29. These terms cover the machine interface at https://tasteminty.com/machine: free records, full records with a key, previews, the updates feed and provenance statements. Buying credits or sending a key means you accept them. Questions: [email protected].

1. What you get, and what stays with the artists

Records describe artworks by the illustrators on Minty: titles, the artist's public name, keywords, labels, captions, dimensions, checksums, prices and links. The artworks themselves stay the property of their artists. Nothing here licenses an artwork: to use one, buy a licence at its buy_url; to commission an artist, use its hire_url. Training on artworks is licensed separately and only for artists who opted in (licensed datasets).

2. Free records

You may index and search index records, show them to people with attribution (the artist's public name and a link to canonical_url), and link to Minty. Follow the rights in each record, the hourly limits, and robots.txt, and identify your client with a descriptive User-Agent.

3. Full records (paid)

With a key you may:

  • store full records and use them inside your own product or service, for search, discovery, recommendation, and helping people buy licences or commission artists;
  • use the text and data of records (captions, labels, keywords, metadata) as input to AI systems that answer people's questions, as long as answers that rely on a record credit the artist and link to canonical_url;
  • show the 320 px watermarked preview next to that record, unaltered and with the same attribution.

You may not:

  • use records, previews or artworks to train, fine-tune or evaluate generative models, or to build datasets for others to do so (that needs a dataset licence);
  • feed previews or artwork images into AI systems, crop or remove the watermark, or present previews as licensed images;
  • resell, republish or share records or previews in bulk, or give your key to anyone else;
  • try to find out personal data about artists, contact them other than through hire_url, or work around limits, signatures or access controls.

The rights object in each record has two parts. data covers the record's text and metadata: it may be used as AI input, and trained on only when bought through the training tiers (3a). assets covers images, previews and source files: no AI input and no training; an image licence can be requested, and is granted only for artists who opted in. These terms add what you may do with the record data you paid for.

3a. Training tiers

Records bought from /machine/training/records (Tier 1 and Tier 2) may be used to train, fine-tune and evaluate models, including generative models, on a non-exclusive basis. This covers only the delivered records: artwork ids, eras, provenance levels, styles, mediums, subjects and use cases, captions and short captions, labels, vision tags and human-defined style labels. It does not cover images, previews, titles, artist names or anything on tasteminty.com pages. You may not redistribute or resell the records, or use them to identify artists or pair them back to images. Each tier is capped at 5,000 records per buyer and per crawler each month; buying through several wallets or keys to exceed the cap is a breach of these terms. Images are licensed only by separate agreement, for artists who opted in.

4. Removals

When the updates feed marks a record delete, or a record starts answering 404, the artwork was removed or its artist opted out. Delete your copy of that record and its preview within 30 days.

5. Credits and payment

  • Credits are sold in prepaid packs, priced in US dollars and paid through Stripe. Minty never receives your card details.
  • One credit is used for each full record delivered to you. Nothing is charged for a request that fails, for index records, search, styles, previews or provenance statements.
  • Credits do not expire while Machine Access runs. Prices may change for future packs; credits you hold keep their value in records.
  • Unused credits are refunded on request within 14 days of purchase. Used credits are not refundable. If Minty ends Machine Access, unused credits are refunded.
  • Prices do not include taxes you may owe where you are.

5a. Auto top-up

If you turn on auto top-up, you authorise Minty to save your card with Stripe and charge it for the pack you chose whenever your key's balance falls to your threshold, up to the monthly limit you set, until you turn it off. Each automatic charge is a separate purchase under these terms and is emailed to you. You can change the pack, threshold and limit, switch auto top-up off or remove the card at any time at /machine/account or with POST /machine/autotopup. Minty pauses auto top-up after two failed charges, or when the monthly limit is reached, and tells you. Minty never stores card numbers; Stripe does.

6. Keys

A key is shown once. Keep it secret; you are responsible for its use. Minty may suspend a key that breaks these terms, is abused, or is shared, and will tell you why if you gave an email address.

7. The service

Machine Access is provided as it is, without a guaranteed uptime. Captions, labels and vision tags are generated by software and can be wrong; source in each record says where each value comes from. Provenance statements state facts Minty holds, such as upload dates, and nothing more. Minty may change or add endpoints and announces changes in the documentation.

8. Liability

As far as the law allows, Minty is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and its total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Machine Access in the twelve months before the claim.

9. Your data

For a purchase Minty stores the order, the email address given for the receipt, and the name you give for your client, to deliver credits and handle support. Payments are processed by Stripe. Records contain no personal data about artists beyond their public names.

10. Changes

New versions of these terms are published here with a new version date. Each purchase is made under the version accepted at the time; continued use of a key more than 30 days after a new version is published means accepting it.
